A Unique Retrospective at the Legion of Honor: “Breguet: Art and Innovation in Watchmaking”
From September 19, 2015 to January 10, 2016, the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco welcomes “Breguet: Art and Innovation in Watchmaking,” the largest exhibition of Breguet antique timepieces ever to be shown in the Americas. On view within the splendid setting of the California Palace at the Legion of Honor, it showcases the exceptional work of an innovator widely considered to be the greatest watchmaker of all time. The exhibition gathers more than 70 pocket watches, clocks and horological instruments dating from the time of A.-L. Breguet and his successors, many having belonged to eminent historical figures. From its founding in 1775, Breguet created timepieces that were miracles of mechanical engineering and objects of rare beauty celebrated in the courts of Europe by the world’s most preeminent personalities.
