Nato a Parigi, lo scrittore francese Henri Murger (1822-1861) pubblicò Scènes de la vie de Bohème (Scene della vita di Bohème) nel 1848. L’immediato successo lo spinse ad adattare il romanzo per il teatro nel 1851, ispirando Giacomo Puccini e la sua celebre opera del 1896 intitolata La Bohème.
